FIRST PAGE FRIDAY: Storm Grant's Sucks & Blows

About Sucks & Blows
Deeply in debt to a loan shark, oversexed dentist Cary Drewel lives in fear of foreclosure and bodily harm. His new practice is missing one rather crucial element: patients. Which, terrifyingly enough, is the one thing his creditors also don’t have.

Pierce Sharpe, a powerful vampire with a drinking problem—or, more accurately, a problem drinking—can’t feed through the pain in his damaged eye teeth. In danger of losing his standing in the vampire community, Pierce seeks Cary’s dental services. When Cary extracts his canines, Pierce must turn to other bodily fluids for sustenance.

Together, Cary and Pierce find a mutually pleasurable solution to both their problems. Turns out, though, there’s more to this dentist-patient relationship than simple suction, and what began with raw hunger from each of them might just end in love.

Cary was just about to jerk off again when the electronic door chime squawked the first few bars of “Another One Bites the Dust.”
He rushed out to the reception area. “Hello. Welcome to Drewel’s Dentistry!” He hoped he didn’t sound too anxious. And that his residual hard-on wasn’t tenting his racy black dental smock.
That the visitor was tall and handsome, with a muscular build and chiseled cheekbones, did little to dampen Cary’s arousal.
“I . . . I thaw your brothure.” The man held out Cary’s carefully crafted (but badly printed) flyer:
Grand Opening!
Drewel’s Family Dental Clinic
~ Vampires Our Specialty ~
“You do vampireth?”
“Absolutely.” Cary grinned. He’d included the vampire reference to show he was the dentist with a sense of humor. And also to attract the Twilight age group, which was ripe for expensive orthodontia.
“Hurths.” The man pointed to his upper lip, red and swollen on either side of his sexy little cupid’s bow.
“I can help you with your dental breakdown, Mr. . . .”
“Tharpe. Pierthe Tharpe.”
“Nice to meet you, Mr. Sharpe. May I call you Pierce?”
“Thure.” Pierce held out his hand.
“Call me Cary, then.” Cary grasped the outstretched hand, surprised at how cold and shaky Pierce felt. This guy was in bad shape. He looked like death—if death were really cute, that is.
Withdrawing his hand, Pierce shoved it deep into his jeans
pocket, maybe to hide the trembling. “I haven’t eaten in dayths. Hurths too much.”

FIRST PAGE FRIDAY: Peter Hansen's First Watch

About First Watch

Do you want to live? In the darkness of a WWI battlefield, young Legionnaire Edouard Montreuil lies dying. As teeth nibble his flesh, a voice whispers in his ear, Do you want to live? Frightened and desperate, Edouard bargains his freedom for a second chance.

Aboard the Flèche, a grim submarine captained by the nightmare who granted Edouard new life, Edouard pays the price for his survival. Each night, he gives his body to his captain as the bells sound first watch. But surviving is not living, and as the days stretch into months beneath the waves, Edouard grows desperate for escape.

Can Edouard’s old comrade Farid Ruiz help him break this devil’s bargain, or will Ruiz fall to the same fate, trapped beneath the waves at the mercy of a monster whose hunger knows no bounds? Edouard and Ruiz served together once before, and slept together too, but courage and passion failed to save them from the eldritch beasts who roamed the night. This time, the cost of failure is nothing so clean or simple as death, and the spoils of victory are not just life, but love.

The dog watch shaded into the first watch, and at the eighth bell, Edouard Montreuil put aside his pen and rose from his bunk. He locked his letter carefully in his sea chest, then buttoned his shirt collar up against his throat. A useless gesture, he knew—it’d be undone for him within the first moments—but he took pride in small signs of resistance.

The other men on first watch went to their stations at the observation deck or the con, and the night crew of engineers went aft to spell the men in the engine room. Edouard walked with them, as he always did, and they ignored him, as they always did. They, too, had their reasons for serving on the Flèche; better not to ask what debts a fellow crewman was repaying beneath the waves.

They’d been submerged for three days now, and the air was thick and hot and stale. The engine room hummed faintly. Behind their tight steel cages, the electric lights gleamed white and steady.

An assistant engineer on dog watch gave Edouard a worried look, and he raised his chin at the pity in it. “Go to your bunk, Valancourt,” he said. If he didn’t have the rank to enforce the order, neither did Valancourt have the will to stay. The crew knew why he passed through the engine room to the captain’s cabin night after night. If they didn’t, it was only willful ignorance.

He ducked his head and slid through the aft portal sideways, like a long-limbed crab. Stork, Ruiz had called him back in la Légion, when they’d all been looking for new names. All long legs. For a moment, Edouard stood in the narrow passage between the officers’ quarters and the engine room, remembering the way the sun had beat down on his brow in Algeria and the way Ruiz had laughed. He passed the alcove where the officers bunked, and rapped on the door of the captain’s cabin.

FIRST PAGE FRIDAY: Indie (and amazing) author, Debora Dennis

Dreaming of the past. Hannah Falcon loves her job cataloging medieval artifacts and setting up the displays at the Natural History Museum in New York City. What she doesn’t love is her friends insisting she date more. When a man dressed as a medieval knight shows up in the museum, Hannah mistakes him for her friend’s latest attempt at a blind date.
Sent into the future: Sir Gavin of Rogueforth is a battle-hardened twelfth century knight who expects nothing more from life than to live and die by his sword. Sent through time to protect a woman named Hannah and claim her as his own, he expects a reward. He doesn’t expect a woman who refuses to be protected.
Can one passionate night, ten days before Christmas, convince a twenty-first century woman to follow her heart and show a medieval knight there's more to life than being a protector?

Prologue
England, 1192

"Sir?" The squire slowly approached Sir Gavin of Rogueforth, who sat alone in front of the roaring fire with a trencher of food in his hands.
An orange flame spiked in the hearth, warming Gavin's tired legs and half-frozen feet. He needed to teach the boy to know better when he didn't want to be disturbed. Turning toward the squire he nodded for him to speak.
"A woman wishes an audience with you."
"Who is she?" Exhausted and hungry, all he wanted was to eat and sleep. "Can it not wait until morning?"
"It's the old woman from the road, Sir. She is alone."
Gavin barely had time to put his trencher on the table and stand before she walked across the vaulted room and into view.
He immediately recognized the woman cloaked entirely in black, the strands of her hair barely contained beneath the hood. He'd come upon her and another female companion that morning as their coach was under attack from a band of highway thieves. The body of her son lay dead on the road.
She removed her hood and said, "Sir, I wanted to thank you properly for aiding us today."
Her wrinkled, frail fingers clutched at the neck of her cloak. She did not smile, but her eyes held a twinkle he found curious for a lady who'd faced the death of her son mere hours before.
"I'm sorry I didn't arrive soon enough to save your son." Sorry didn't seem enough, but after years of witnessing death both at his hand and that of his enemies, he had no other words to offer.
"I am sorry too, and I will grieve his loss for the rest of my life. He was ill prepared for fighting, I'm afraid. I am not here to talk of my son, but to reward your service. My daughter Hannah is safe tonight because of you."

FIRST PAGE FRIDAY: Rachel Haimowitz's Master Class

Broadway darling Nicky Avery is a shooting star by night, but by day he bounces from one heartless one-night stand to the next. A quick flogging, a rough lay, a new whip-hand to manipulate—yet still he yearns for something he cannot even name.

He finds his first true hint of satisfaction in Devon Turner, a self-possessed film star and expert Dom. Devon knows what he wants the moment he sees it, and what he wants is Nicky Avery. Nicky’s never learned to trust and has a nasty habit of topping from the bottom, but he learns fast that in the bedroom, Devon won’t tolerate his actor’s masks.

Nicky’s a broken boy, but Devon knows exactly how to put his new sub back together. With patience, care, and all the punishments his little pain slut can handle, Devon breaks Nicky down one scene at a time, revealing a mind that yearns to trust and a heart that hungers for the ecstasy of true submission at last.

CHAPTER 1
Even stars got star-struck, right? It was perfectly normal. Not embarrassing at all.
At least, that’s what Nicky kept telling himself as he stared across the table at Devon fucking Turner, A-lister extraordinaire and, let’s face it, hunk to beat all hunks.

And Dom to beat all subs, too. Nicky was certain of it. The way Devon met his eyes with such force across the candle-lit table that Nicky had to avert his gaze. The way he made Nicky feel like the only man in the room, naked at Devon’s mercy despite the armor of his three-piece suit and the other six guests at the table, only two of whom he knew but all of whom, he was certain, could see right through his flustered, lust-sick stare.

Shit, he had to get out of here, get some air. Get his head back on his shoulders before it ended up, uninvited, in Devon’s lap.

“Excuse me,” he blurted, standing up from the table hard enough to skid his chair. He’d forgotten about the napkin in his lap; it swooshed to the floor as all eyes landed on him. Why had he tied his tie so tight? “I uh . . .” He pointed vaguely toward the area where he thought the restrooms were. “Excuse me.”

He ran off before he could take stock of all the curious looks. Or, God help him, the knowing one—the absolute, bone-deep surety—of Devon Turner’s.

He found the men’s room without fuss and pushed through the door, just leaning for a moment on the other side remembering how to breathe. For Christ’s sake, this was ridiculous. He performed in front of thousands eight times a week without the slightest trouble. What was his problem now?
